Werner’s Garden is tucked away on a quiet, peaceful plot of land in East Mt.Airy. The land itself has had many iterations over the years, but it’s most consistent and important use has been to serve and feed Mt. Airy, neighboring communities, and the Greater Philadelphia region.
Local and professional gardeners have contributed countless hours to rehabilitating this piece of land into a thriving community garden. Its award winning efforts to utilize onsite materials and sustainable agricultural methods have led to large yields of produce that go directly to various organizations to help fight local food insecurity. It has never been more important for a community to have this type of resource.
It has also never been more important to simply have a safe, comforting space for the people who work on and care for the land. During the pandemic, Werner’s Garden has been essential in cultivating a strong community – brought together in a time of need to be outside, with nature, and safely with each other.
