Growing Community at Werner’s Garden
I didn’t understand what community meant until I joined Werner’s Community Garden in 2013. Up until then, I was living in Brooklyn where I never knew my neighbors by name, let alone by face. Joining Werner’s Community Garden allotted me the space to not only connect with the earth and my food; it connected me…

Revelations!
I’m so glad to have been able to be part of Werner’s Garden. It’s given meaning and a destination to get more walking in. I have worked beside awfully nice people from my own neighborhood. We have been able to raise food for others who have food insecurity. Having the coordinator we do has really…

Growing Up in the Garden
We’ve been a part of the community garden since we moved here in 2016 when our daughter was 2. Connecting with community, plants, and animals in the garden has been a part of her growing up. We’ve gardened as a family and my daughter has weeded or read a book in the shade. She has…

near neighbor
In 1990 when I bought my home, on E. Sydney St., the garden area was full of trees and shrubs & various animals. Some trees were endangering nearby property, so the area was cleared and offered for gardening. In Spring, 2009, Weavers Way Co-op began farming in Werner’s Garden. They planted leeks. In June, 2009,…

Beginning
This was the first place that I ever had a food-growing garden of my own. I really began gardening here. I’ve been helped by other gardeners and found encouragement in the setting and community. I’ve met neighbors and enjoyed volunteering. The land and the plantings are beautiful and add joy and nourishment to my life!

My neighbor, the garden
Out my back window is a parking lot and a Mechanic’s shop, but also out my window is a community garden. I can tell you how wonderful, calming, and brightening it is to have a sweet community garden like Werner’s beyond my backyard. You really couldn’t ask for a better neighbor!

Hidden green space in Mount Airy
I have been tending a plot at Werner’s Garden for the past three years. I love being able to grow fresh, organic tomatoes and herbs. In the common spaces of the garden, we grow grapes, blackberries, and raspberries. One of the best things about the garden is having the opportunity to meet other gardeners from…

Werner’s Garden is Vital to Our Comminty Well-Being
Werner’s Garden is tucked away on a quiet, peaceful plot of land in East Mt.Airy. The land itself has had many iterations over the years, but it’s most consistent and important use has been to serve and feed Mt. Airy, neighboring communities, and the Greater Philadelphia region. Local and professional gardeners have contributed countless hours…

I first came to Werner’s Community Garden a few years ago to scout out a potential place to keep beehives, and was really delighted to see how much community interaction there is. Not only is the food grown there given back to the community, but it is grown by locals who cherish the opportunity to…

I’ve been a member of the garden since 2012 and was present for the inaugural till. For many years I enjoyed having the extra space for growing and feeling like I was sort of a part of something. I would often ask for special projects I could do on my own time and I loved…
